Ernesto Sabato est né en 1911. Avant-guerre, il séjourne à Paris et rencontre les surréalistes.
De retour en Argentine, il écrit son premier roman en 1948, Le Tunnel, salué par Albert Camus et Graham Greene. Viendront ensuite Héros et tombes et L'Ange des ténèbres, qui constituent
une trilogie romanesque. Ernesto Sabato vit aujourd'hui à Buenos Aires.
